Project Review Requirements

Urban West specializes in landscape construction. To prepare meaningful preliminary pricing, the project scope, layout, major features, materials, and plant selections should be substantially finalized before an onsite review.

Homeowner-planned projects are welcome. If additional design development is needed, we can recommend an independent designer or landscape architect for you to consider. Any professional you select will remain independent and entirely your choice.

Please provide any available plans, measurements, material selections, HOA requirements, and other relevant project information before the review.

A project review is conducted solely to evaluate potential construction scope, preliminary pricing, scheduling, and whether the project may be a suitable fit for Urban West. It is not a design service or an approval, certification, or verification of plans, engineering, surveys, property boundaries, drainage calculations, code or zoning compliance, permit requirements, or HOA requirements.

Built with Care. Built for Everyday Living.

Quality landscape construction depends on more than the materials visible at the surface. Site preparation, grading, drainage, base construction, installation methods, and construction sequencing may all affect how the completed work performs.

Urban West focuses on the construction details applicable to our contracted scope. Each project is completed through an organized process—from pre-construction coordination and site preparation through installation and the final walkthrough.

What that means for you:

  • We review visible site conditions and construction considerations relevant to our proposed work.
  • Your project follows a defined construction sequence based on its contracted scope.
  • We maintain clear communication regarding scheduling, progress, and decisions requiring owner approval.
  • Materials are installed using methods appropriate to the contracted work, applicable manufacturer instructions, and project conditions.
  • The specific scope, responsibilities, assumptions, and exclusions are identified in the written construction agreement.

Clear From Proposal to Completion

Once your project is substantially finalized, we’ll review the information provided, discuss the proposed construction scope, and determine whether the project is a good fit for our services. If appropriate, we’ll conduct an on-site visit and prepare a written proposal describing the proposed work, pricing, assumptions, and exclusions.

Changes, concealed conditions, agency requirements, owner selections, and work by others may affect the final scope, price, or schedule. Any authorized changes will be documented in accordance with the construction agreement.

Depending on the project, our proposal process may include:

  • An initial project-information review
  • An on-site visit for qualified projects
  • A professionally prepared digital proposal
  • Review of material samples applicable to the proposed work
  • Product or outdoor-lighting demonstrations when available
  • Information commonly requested for owner-managed HOA submissions
  • Contact information for independent design professionals when requested

Call 858-310-6187 or request a project review.

FAQ

Urban West provides landscape construction services—not landscape architecture, engineering, land surveying, or other professional services requiring a separate license. Our review is limited to evaluating the information provided for construction scope, pricing, scheduling, and project fit. It does not constitute approval or verification of the plans, engineering, property boundaries, code compliance, permit requirements, or concealed site conditions. Responsibilities for permits related to Urban West’s contracted work will be identified in the written construction agreement.

We recommend established materials suited to the intended use, visible site conditions, maintenance expectations, and Southern California’s climate. Final material selections are subject to the property owner’s approval and, when applicable, the recommendations or specifications of the project’s design professional.

For work included in our agreement, we focus on appropriate site preparation, installation methods, applicable manufacturer instructions, and quality workmanship. Material appearance, performance, and longevity may vary based on use, maintenance, weather, environmental conditions, manufacturer limitations, existing or concealed conditions, and work performed by others.

Yes. Urban West undertakes comprehensive landscape construction projects based on substantially finalized, owner-approved plans. Depending on the agreed scope, site conditions, required approvals, and applicable licensing requirements, projects may include demolition, grading, drainage, hardscape, irrigation, turf, planting, landscape lighting, fencing, and outdoor living features.

Our services are limited to the construction work specifically included in the written construction agreement and permitted under our California contractor’s license. Responsibilities involving design professionals, engineering, specialty contractors, permits, owner-furnished items, and work by others will be addressed separately when applicable.

Our primary focus is complete yard renovations and substantial landscape improvements rather than small repairs or service calls.

Our clients choose Urban West to construct their finalized plans using organized project coordination, established construction practices, and quality workmanship. The specific scope of work, responsibilities, exclusions, and any required specialty services are identified in the written construction agreement.

Once the plans and selections are finalized, we construct the agreed scope with attention to the applicable grading, drainage, irrigation, material installation, and workmanship requirements identified for our contracted work. Final appearance and long-term performance may also depend on the underlying design, existing or concealed site conditions, maintenance, weather, material characteristics, and work performed by others.
